Aka "Siren's tears" or, for the layman... seaglass! For those who beachcomb and collect it, you'll know that blue is one of the very rare colours (white, green and brown being predominant). Finding a chip of blue seaglass is a thrill... finding a giant chunk like this is the experience of a lifetime! It was turned into a pendant, to be worn with pride until one day, it returns to the sea.

It's easy to feel like the best parent in the world when you can offer such serenity to your kids... and yes, dogs are people too!

Treasure

The receeding waves leave many treasures behind, if only for a few hours before reclaiming the land. Time for walking, breathing, exploring and, who knows, maybe see a siren or two.

So I had alot of fun showing my brit stepdaughter how to make Pillsbury Apple Turnovers: one box full of magic, so easy and so yummy! Like playdough only tastier (a lot tastier). Even the oven was a source of entertainment and yes, that's us "in" the oven, getting cooked. :-D

Is there a better thing in the world than big gentle rocks at low tide? I think not! :-)

It's all fake, you know. We were with the dogs 22 out of 24 hours while on vacation, although this photo would make you think the poor things were abandonned and deserted for aaaaages. Pshaw! I nominate my boy for an Oscar!

They really looked like giant marbled steaks... a great fun and adventure to climb and explore at low tide!

Although picturesque, this ramp felt kinda wonky as we tiptoed our way down to the sodden blustery beach... but it held, and it will probably hold for years to come.

...Do you remember being nine years old and giving in to the sweet pleasures of a simple swing in the park? And when this park is by the seaside, just imagine your view and how giddy the air feels against your bare feet!

One of my favorite beach scenes... I love walking on the cool, freshly-sculpted sandy sea floor at low tide.

The souls of dead sailors

Legend is, the thick rolling sea fog that suddenly appears on a balmy afternoon represents the souls of all sailors who perished at sea, since the beginning of time. Seeing how cloudy this stuff is, it makes me wonder! ;-)

My step-daughter patiently etching a note for her dad on a sea stone, rock on rock... at 9 years old, discovering these little secrets of Mother Nature is both delightful and magical :-)

Journals of a seaside vacation

The beach at low tide, sporting a temperamental sky... it was just superb. Been back home for just one day and already I miss the pungent salty sea air, ripe with kelp and the cries of seagulls. I'll be posting vacation-themed pics for the month of September, so come back every day for a new surprise!
